Kartarpur Free Visa Corridor is the talk of the town, but do you know that this project is not new. History says that this Visa-free Corridor For Sikh people was first proposed by the then the Premiers of the two countries Pakistan and India, Muhammad Nawaz Sharif and Atal Bihari Vajpayee. This was an important part of the Dehli-Lahore Bus project. You might have remembered that through that bus, Ex-Premier Vajpayee traveled from Dehli to Lahore.
The progress towards the opening of that corridor started recently when last year, means in 2018, the initiative from India been taken to lay down the foundation stone for the project on their side. The same has done by the state of Pakistan under the directions of Prime Minister Imran Khan. Imran Khan then compared the project with the worldly renown event of the fall of Berline wall. He opined in a statement that This move will relax the tensions between the two countries.
Kartarpur Corridor has completed and ready to embrace thousands of the Sikh Yatri in almost under 5 Kilometers inside the Border towards Pakistan. It is a good gesture from the two neighbors towards easing the tensions previously escalated by the two sides. It’s the 550th birthday anniversary of their sacred leader Baba Guru Nanak Dev. Internationally this project is bringing a good name to Pakistan and also to India.
Kartarpur Corridor, Hopes for Kashmir?
As per the present tensed situation between Pakistan and India over Kashmir, there seems no solution to the problem been dragged for 72 years. Following the war escalation on the borders from India’s side and Pakistan’s reaction, Constant Curfew in Kashmir by Indian troops for almost 100 days, what can one hope for any positive development? But some analysts are taking Kartarpur friendly corridor a step towards the solution of Kashmir. It will bound India to observe the internationally passed resolutions and free Kashmir.
Strategically, the Kartarpur corridor will impact and encourage peace in the region. We can see the example of South and North Korea in this regard, West and East Germany. We could see the huge economic differences between the two halves of the country, west and east Germany, South, and North Korea. Ultimately a time came when the Berlin wall fell and the world is evident in the stability of the region and economic growth in Germany.
Same is the case is for South and North Korea. Two of the heads of their states shook the hands and crossed the borders, hugged, embraced and welcomed each other to their lands. South and North Korea now are trying for their good relations and it will be great news we will be listening someday that people of that region can move freely without any Visa restriction. This friendly expression is welcomed by peace-loving people all around the world.
Pakistan and India first should respect the minorities in their own countries, and encourage internal and external peace. A Hindu friend was asking a question last night, that why only Sikhs got the sudden importance for the two sides? Don’t they see the human rights violations they do with the other minorities in their own lands?
Kashmir solution is possible, it is a political process and may take time, but a ray of freedom should never be tamed. Franz Fanon and Malcom-X fought for the peace in Aljazier and they succeeded to get that from France which the country was colony of.
We can hope, Kashmir will be solved, Kartarpur in this regard is a very good starter, it will end on the complete peace in the region.
